Spiti Valley is the place to revive the love for long-lost things. This could be sending a postcard from the highest post office in the World, or going fossil hunting in the villages of Spiti. One such fossil village-Langza welcomes you with a life-size golden statue of Buddha. The sedimentary rocks of this village hide the remains of plants & marine life which are millions of years old. Go see for yourself if you’re lucky enough to spot one!
Contrary to all shades of gray and white, a turquoise ribbon of the Spiti River will meet you as your near-constant companion, running along a broad valley before turning south at Sumdo into the precipitous gorges of the Hangrang Valley. Spiti attracts many travelers, including streams of Indian motorcyclists, as a kind of ‘mini-Ladakh without tourist crowds’. This title is absolutely fair since its pristine nature (a high-altitude desert) and culture (Tibetan Buddhism) are still intact.

Tour Plan
Leave from Delhi by 09:30 PM and reach Shimla the next morning.
- This stands around 7100 feet above sea level and is a little hamlet that can be easily covered by foot.
- The snow-covered Shrikhand Mahadev Peak towers over it while the River Sutlej flows in the valley below Sarahan.
- This place belongs to the district of Bushehr even though it lies within the borders of Shimla. Tourists come here for the beauty of this place and the famous Bhimkali Temple that is to be found here.
- This is one place that will leave you wanting more and one is sure to come back for a second time.
- Overnight stay at Sarahan
Chitkul – Another enchanted place in this beautiful land. Has a high-altitude river flowing right beside it. Offers grand views of the nearby mountain peaks. It is also a starting and endpoint for multiple high-altitude treks.
- After breakfast, leave for Chitkul the last village on the old Indo-Tibetan trade route.
- Walk through the green orchards, by a brilliant stream.
- As the day falls, return to your stay in Sangla for dinner and overnight stay.
Founded in the 996 AD, the Tabo Gompa is the Oldest and Largest Monastery in the Spiti Valley. The monastery also is known as the “Ajanta and Elora of Himalaya”. Tabo village is one of the finest settlements in the Spiti Valley.
- After breakfast in the early morning, we’ll check out of our hotels and head towards Tabo.
- En route, we’ll be making a pit stop at Khab, which is the beautiful confluence of the Sutlej and Spiti rivers. We’ll also be traversing through Nako Village where we’ll visit Nako lake and the Nako Monastery.
- Upon our arrival in Tabo, we’ll check into our homestays.
- Dinner followed by an overnight stay in Tabo.
Kaza or Kaja as the locals say is the headquarters of Spiti Valley. The city is well developed with almost all infrastructural facilities, amidst dry cold deserts. Kaza has a lot to offer in terms of culture and belief, besides the shopping arcade, Cafés, and eating joints.
- Post breakfast, we’ll start our journey towards the headquarters of Spiti, i.e Kaza.
- En route, we’ll make a pitstop at the 1021-year-old Tabo Monastery followed by the Dhankar Monastery.
- We’ll reach Kaza before dusk falls. Post-check-in, you’re free to explore the town.
- Dinner followed by an overnight stay in Kaza.
Note: The visit to Dhankar Monastery is subject to weather conditions.
- Post breakfast, we’ll head out for Key Monastery followed by Chicham Bridge (Asia’s Highest Bridge).
- Later in the day, we will visit Hikkim (the highest post office in the world).
- After that, we’ll move towards Komic village (one of the highest villages in the world, elevated at 4600 meters connected by a motorable road).
- We’ll be visiting Langza and seeing the famous Buddha statue.
- Head back to Kaza. After reaching our hotel/homestay, dinner will be served followed by an overnight stay in Kaza.

- After an early breakfast, we’ll head out to visit Kalpa.
- Walk around the breezy terraces overlooking the town and watch the drama in the narrow streets.
- We will further drive towards Spiti Valley via Roghi Cliff and Roghi village in Kalpa.
- We shall chain up our tires at “Tinku Glacier’. After crossing Khab Bridge (A gateway to Spiti Valley) we will get a thin layer of snow on the road.
- Overnight stay at Kalpa.
- Post breakfast at the hotel, you will head towards Shimla, known as the fruit bowl of Himachal Pradesh.
- Travel through the slithering roads following the Satluj and passing the rich Deodhar forests to reach Shimla.
- Upon reaching Shimla rest in the comfort of modern civilization, with a bag of delightful memories and exciting stories
- Conclude the tour as you get dropped at Shimla Bus Stop where you will be boarding an AC Volvo Bus back to Delhi

Things to Know
- Book your flights with the option of a free date change
- Access to high-altitude regions of Spiti Valley, especially Hikkim, Komik, Langza Village, and Pin Valley, etc may be blocked during winter months due to excessive snowfall. Hence, the visit to these locations is weather-dependent. In such a case, we will look for the best possible alternatives, as feasible.
- Travelers residing outside Delhi are suggested to book trains/flights reaching Delhi not later than 4 PM on the trip start date. Similarly, on the trip end date, book returning flights/trains leaving post 2 PM.
- Numerous factors such as weather, road conditions, the physical ability of participants, etc. may cause itinerary changes. We reserve the right to change any schedule in the interest of safety, comfort, and general well-being.
- Some regions do not have star-category hotels due to their offbeat locations thus we’d expect you to not expect luxurious amenities and at times, even basic amenities like 24×7 running electricity, hot water & wifi at these properties/ hotels/homestays.
- For large groups, all rooms in one hotel may not be available, so if two or more hotels are selected, identical facilities may not be available between rooms. We will however try our best to maintain similarities in services but we expect you to adjust to these conditions.
- Please note that all special requests like early check-in, views, smoking, non smoking, floors, king, twin, adjoining and/or interconnecting rooms are strictly subject to availability upon arrival and cannot be guaranteed prior. Any expenses arising out of this is to be borne by the customer.
- For meal plans, the menu will be on fixed plan/ buffet basis and not on an A-la-Carte basis. MAP plans do not include evening snacks and cold drinks/liquor, soups or desserts. For order on A-la-Carte basis, guests are requested to make direct payment for additional items.
- Consumption and serving of alcohol in hotels / rooms is subject to hotel’s rules and regulations.
- In triple sharing room, an extra mattress is provided. This is not to be confused with an extra bed.
- In hilly areas, scarcity of water and electricity is a natural phenomenon. To overcome the water crisis, certain hotels have fixed schedule for supplying hot and cold water. We strongly regret the inconvenience but do look forward to your cooperation.
- Due to unforeseen situations (force majeure/ traffic jams / traffic halts/ diversions/ curfew, Union strike, VVIP movement, etc.) the vehicle reporting may get delayed and in such case, we request you to bear with us. We also expect you to board the vehicle as soon as it arrives so any further delay can be avoided.
- The vehicle used will not be at disposal and will be exclusively used as per the itinerary only (on point to point basis).
- No AC will be available in vehicles like Tempo Traveler/ Innova / Xylo / Scorpio or any similar category in hilly regions.
- Kindly note that the Volvo from Delhi to Base is a third party vehicle provided by our listed vendors. Please understand that these are regular running vehicles and we cannot keep a proper check on them although in case of a break down a new vehicle is arranged but at times it takes a little while for the on-ground operations to do so thus, your cooperation if any breakdown happens is required.
- The Volvo bus halts for lunch/dinner wherever required are predefined by the vendor and cannot be changed by us as per our convenience.
Your Curiosities, Our Clarity
Q. What clothing should I pack for one of your adventures?
A. We always recommend packing as light as possible however the specific requirements for your tour will vary widely depending on where and when you are traveling. Our ‘Trip Details’ document includes a suggested packing list and these can be downloaded from each individual trip summary page. The checklist is tour-specific and based on the experience of our ground staff.
Q. What are the age restrictions on your tours?
A. To travel independently you must be at least 18 years of age. There are no upper age limits for most of our tours (although 18-to-Thirtysomethings tours are restricted exclusively to 18-to-39-year-olds). Also, travelers with pre-existing medical conditions are required to complete a medical questionnaire. Our Family Adventures are open to families with children aged between 6 and 17 years of age. Our standard (non-family) adventures are open to children aged 12 years or older when accompanied by a parent (max. two children per adult). The two-children-per-adult restriction does not apply to our Family adventures.
Q. I’m a single traveler, will I be charged a single sharing?
A. Most of our trips do not have a single supplement. This means that the accommodation is on a twin-share basis and, if you are traveling on your own, you will be sharing a room with another Ek Karvaan traveler of the same sex. Some tours have an optional single supplement or rarely a mandatory single sharing. Although you can ask for your own private room while on tour. The cost and the details vary by trip, so please refer to each trip summary page for details and you can contact our team.
Q. Can you provide me with a list of the hotels we will be staying at?
A. Starting and ending hotels are listed on your travel itinerary. We use a variety of hotels en route and so a complete list of hotels won’t be provided until day 1 of your tour. If your family requires contact information, or in case of emergency, please have them phone +91 87796 79882 / +91 85959 43035. If our office is closed please refer to the emergency phone number that is found on the Trip Details document, these numbers can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Q. Can I join a tour late or leave it early?
A. It’s extremely difficult if not impossible to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early however you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. You would also be responsible for all costs associated with joining a tour late or leaving one early. If you feel this may be necessary please consult an ekkarvaan Specialist before you book your adventure.
Q. What is the most appropriate type of luggage to bring?
A. We strongly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in buses, under seats, etc.. Keep in mind that you will normally have to carry your own luggage on and off buses and trains and up and down hotel staircases. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.
Q. Who are my travelling companions?
A. For privacy reasons, we cannot provide you with advance details on your traveling companions. However, our tours appeal to a wide range of travelers, most of whom share an adventurous spirit and a desire to experience these destinations at a grass-roots level.

Q. Can I book extra nights of hotel accommodation before or after my tour?
A. If we are unable to provide you with the extra nights we will give you the name of a hotel you can contact directly.
Q. Is it safe for Solo Female Travelers?
A. Yes it is very safe for female solo Travelers to travel with us. Our transport and stay operators are registered vendors and have been associated with us for quite a lot of years and we have never faced even a single complaint regarding safety. All our fixed departure trips also have a Trip Lead both male/female to handle things operationally. So if at any time you face any concern you can tell the trip leads and they will rectify it.
Q. How can I trust Ek Karvaan? I am going on a trip for the 1st time.
A. Ek Karvaan is a registered Tour Operator and an MSME-registered organization. We are also recognized by StartUp India. So you might be hearing about us or planning to travel with the community for the first time, but we are in operation since March 2020 and do about 50+ weekend getaways, road trips, Bike tours, and treks every month. Q. How many people can join a tour?
A. We keep our group sizes low so you have the freedom to move around and get involved with your surroundings, as well as more personal attention from our local guides. This intimate size ensures that your group will not crowd your experience. You can expect up to 15 travelers on a trip but the average is 10-12. Check individual trip pages for maximum group sizes.
