Now, the name Meghalaya has significance. It means the land of clouds in the Sanskrit language. The name is true in all senses as Meghalaya is the wettest place globally and is usually covered with clouds.
Meghalaya is famous for various things and Limestone Caves is one of them. These caves can also be considered one of the many specialties of the place. Also, the caves have another name for themselves and are rightly called ‘Caves in the Abode of the Clouds’.
Moving on, adventure sport is also one of the reasons people go to Meghalaya. So, activities like trekking, camping, mountaineering, rock climbing, and water sports are all part of the pack here. - After breakfast, early in the morning we will start first with the Jeep safari.
- Later check-out & head towards Shillong.

Today we will head deeper into the Khasi hills & towards the more gorgeous parts of Meghalaya. Today’s journey is full of places to see. On the way to Cheerapunjee visit Mawphlang Sacred Grove. After heading onward Journey to Cheerapunjee and witnessing and being mesmerized, By the end of the day, you would

- Mawkdok Viewpoint.
- Wha Kaba falls.
- Mawsmai Caves.
- For the night, check-in to Hotel/ Resort
- Overnight Stay in Cheerapunjee.
- After early morning breakfast, We’ll also visit the Seven Sister Fall which is a beautiful seven-segmented waterfall stretching along a rocky cliff. Afterward, we’ll be visiting one of the most notable landmarks in Cherrapunji which is the Mawsmai Caves. The caves are made of limestone with stunning stalactites adorning the roofs giving them a mystical charm.
- Then we’ll head towards Nongriat village and start our trek to the iconic Double Decker Living Roots Bridge. The trail consists of the gushing sound of river, clusters of colorful butterflies, and enchanting forests making it extremely fulfilling.
- Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.
- After breakfast in the morning, you will visit the once-awarded cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong.
- Witness the 100+ years old Living Root Bridge of Riwai Village followed by a short 10-minute trek.
- Post this you will be driving close to the India-Bangladesh border to visit the Dawki Village.
- It is famous for being the home to the clean and crystal waters of the Umngot River.
- Witness the transparent river bed of the Umngot River, also known as the Dawki River. (IF WEATHER AND WATER LEVEL PERMIT).
- Overnight stay in Dwaki.
“Stay in Shnongpedeng will be in Alpine/Dome Tents with common washroom.“
- After Breakfast, in the morning Head out to Jowai.
- En route Visit Laitlum Grand Canyon and head back on the Journey to the Jaintia Hills and visit the Famous Krang Suri Waterfall.
- After, a small trek to Phe Phe Falls and witness the beauty of the Phe Phe Falls which is not to be missed in the Jantia Hills.
- Evening return back to Shillong.
- Overnight Stay in Shillong
- After early morning breakfast, we’ll check out of our hotel rooms and head back to Guwahati.
- Drop Guwahati.

Things to Carry
- Day backpack (20 – 30 Ltrs): When you are on a local sightseeing tour, you are required to carry only a few necessary items and for that, you need a day backpack as you will leave your bigger one at your designated stay.
- Floaters or Sandals: When you are spending your day at leisure, a good pair of sandals and floaters will help you to move freely.
- Outdoor Shoes: A comfortable shoe is required when traveling outdoors. They shouldn’t be chunky, instead, they should be lightweight and sturdy.
- 3 Quick Dry Tees: You must keep at least three pairs of quick dry tees.
- 1 Poncho: A poncho is an evolved form of a raincoat that provides coverage to your body as well as your bag and ensures total water protection from the rain.
- Quick-dry towel: A quick-dry towel will help in maintaining proper hygiene. It must dry quickly because the wet fabric will only increase the chance of bacterial growth.
- Sanitizer: Prevent the risk of infections and maintain proper hand hygiene by making sure you carry a hand sanitizer.
- Sun Cap: A lightweight sun cap with side flaps is perfect to keep your head cool and avoid sunburns on sunny days.
- Sun Screen (SPF 40+): To avoid sunburns, you need to put on sunscreen.
- Water Bottle 1 Lt.: Hydration is extremely important when it comes to traveling To carry a water bottle that you can refill is a must.
- Bag for all your Toiletries: A bag with all your essentials including napkins, toothpaste, sanitizers, paper soap, etc should be carried in a ziplock bag.
- Personal Basic Medical Kit: Carrying a medical kit with bandages, Dettol, and medication for headaches, nausea, etc is necessary.
- Sunglasses / People who use spectacles (Use Photochromic glasses instead of contact lenses): Photochromatic glasses are specs that are designed to transform into anti-glare shades depending upon exposure to the sun. They are good when it comes to eye protection but one can also opt for clip-on glasses etc.
- Mobile charger / Power bank: Although you’ll get electricity at most places, it is always advisable to carry a charged power bank in case of emergencies.
- Documents: Identification proofs like Aadhar Card, and driver’s License.
- Travel Laundry Bag: In case your clothes get wet or your garments don’t dry, you can carry them in the bag and keep them separate from your dry clothes.
- Camera: This should be obvious. To make sure that you get to capture all the great moments from your trip. Make sure that you have enough storage and some extra batteries as well.
Your Curiosities, Our Clarity
Q. What clothing should I pack for one of your adventures?
A. We always recommend packing as light as possible however the specific requirements for your tour will vary widely depending on where and when you are traveling. Our ‘Trip Details’ document includes a suggested packing list and these can be downloaded from each individual trip summary page. The checklist is tour-specific and based on the experience of our ground staff.
Q. What are the age restrictions on your tours?
A. To travel independently you must be at least 18 years of age. There are no upper age limits for most of our tours (although 18-to-Thirtysomethings tours are restricted exclusively to 18-to-39-year-olds). Also, travelers with pre-existing medical conditions are required to complete a medical questionnaire. Our Family Adventures are open to families with children aged between 6 and 17 years of age. Our standard (non-family) adventures are open to children aged 12 years or older when accompanied by a parent (max. two children per adult). The two-children-per-adult restriction does not apply to our Family adventures.
Q. I’m a single traveler, will I be charged a single sharing?
A. Most of our trips do not have a single supplement. This means that the accommodation is on a twin-share basis and, if you are traveling on your own, you will be sharing a room with another Ek Karvaan traveler of the same sex. Some tours have an optional single supplement or rarely a mandatory single sharing. Although you can ask for your own private room while on tour. The cost and the details vary by trip, so please refer to each trip summary page for details and you can contact our team.
Q. Can you provide me with a list of the hotels we will be staying at?
A. Starting and ending hotels are listed on your travel itinerary. We use a variety of hotels en route and so a complete list of hotels won’t be provided until day 1 of your tour. If your family requires contact information, or in case of emergency, please have them phone +91 87796 79882 / +91 85959 43035. If our office is closed please refer to the emergency phone number that is found on the Trip Details document, these numbers can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Q. Can I join a tour late or leave it early?
A. It’s extremely difficult if not impossible to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early however you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. You would also be responsible for all costs associated with joining a tour late or leaving one early. If you feel this may be necessary please consult an ekkarvaan Specialist before you book your adventure.
Q. What is the most appropriate type of luggage to bring?
A. We strongly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in buses, under seats, etc.. Keep in mind that you will normally have to carry your own luggage on and off buses and trains and up and down hotel staircases. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.
Q. Who are my travelling companions?
A. For privacy reasons, we cannot provide you with advance details on your traveling companions. However, our tours appeal to a wide range of travelers, most of whom share an adventurous spirit and a desire to experience these destinations at a grass-roots level.

Q. Can I book extra nights of hotel accommodation before or after my tour?
A. If we are unable to provide you with the extra nights we will give you the name of a hotel you can contact directly.
Q. Is it safe for Solo Female Travelers?
A. Yes it is very safe for female solo Travelers to travel with us. Our transport and stay operators are registered vendors and have been associated with us for quite a lot of years and we have never faced even a single complaint regarding safety. All our fixed departure trips also have a Trip Lead both male/female to handle things operationally. So if at any time you face any concern you can tell the trip leads and they will rectify it.

Q. How many people can join a tour?
A. We keep our group sizes low so you have the freedom to move around and get involved with your surroundings, as well as more personal attention from our local guides. This intimate size ensures that your group will not crowd your experience. You can expect up to 15 travelers on a trip but the average is 10-12. Check individual trip pages for maximum group sizes.
